Liberace and Liza – A Tribute

★★★★★
VenueUnderbelly, Bristo Square
Date Seen10 August 2026

Liberace and Liza is a cabaret comedy duet imagining what might have happened if Liberace and Liza Minnelli had performed together, built around numbers associated with both. David Saffert plays Liberace and Jillian Snow plays Liza, with the two mixing songs, comedy and banter.

Both performers are good actors and both have fantastic voices, which gives the show a solid musical foundation. Saffert is particularly good at the piano, while Snow has a superb singing voice.

The comedy is occasionally too aggressive, pushing the performance harder than it needs to. More importantly, the music was far too loud — genuinely uncomfortably loud at times. That is a fairly fundamental problem for a musical cabaret, because even strong singing becomes difficult to enjoy when the volume itself gets in the way.

Still, once the noise is taken out of the equation, there is plenty to like. The performers are talented, the voices are excellent, and the basic conceit makes for an enjoyable evening.

Runs 5–17 August and 19–30 August at 8:25pm.
