Supposing:
Supposing: follows a woman who falls down a hole and acquires the ability to see the future, with a Greek chorus delivering predictions around the growth of the far right and the violence that follows. It is somewhere between tragicomedy and tragedy, leaning much more towards the latter.
There is some really nice acting, particularly from Nicole Cooper as Sally and Richard Conlon as her husband, and the story itself is interesting and engaging. The problem is that the themes feel muddled. It is never quite clear what the piece is actually saying about the emergence of the far right beyond the fact that it is happening, with the chorus largely there to tell us as much. The political material can also feel rather heavy-handed.
Then there is the ending, which is simply strange. It does not quite make sense in relation to what has come before, leaving the piece less settled than its dramatic premise needs it to be.
Interesting, well acted and engaging, but thematically muddled.
