To Do Lists
Most of our lives will be consumed by lists for just about everything. To Do Lists takes advantage of this familiar machinery in its Bildungsroman of a girl trying to attempting to manage her life. It soon becomes clear that the lists are really a route into class, belonging and the question of where one fits in the world's complexities.
Amy Lever's one-woman dramatic monologue is very well paced, and there is some really good acting at its centre. The performance keeps the piece moving without making the structure feel mechanical, which is important for a show built around repetition and record-keeping.
What is otherwise an engaging hour of theatre is slightly frustrated by some distracting subtitles which closely mirror (though often does not) Lever's dialogue and there's no sign this is with intent. It's a great shame as the underlying performance is so strong.
